Advocacy program to demand compensation for the damage caused to the farmers by the monkeys

There are more and more reports of monkeys causing great distress to people, especially farmers. When will the monkeys get compensation for the losses incurred by the farmers? As this issue has been raised urgently, the Honorable Supreme Court has issued a directive order in the Wildlife Damage Relief Guideline 2069 to add compensation for the damage caused to the farmers by the monkeys. This order must be implemented as soon as possible. In this context, the National Farmers Group Federation of Nepal on September 10, 2019, issued compensation for the damage caused to the farmers by the monkeys. The thematic discussion program has been concluded with the hospitality of former Minister for Agriculture Shri Hari Parajuli Jew and the chairmanship of Shri Nawaraj Basnet, President of the National Federation of Farmers Group Nepal.

Various stakeholders were represented in the program. Krishi Vikas Bank, National Farmers Commission, Nepal War Association, Representatives of the Policy Branch of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Family and Private Forests, Community Self-Reliance Service Center, FIAN Nepal, Agriculture T. V., in the presence of the National Federation of Women Farmers, as well as other personalities concerned with this issue, presented their views and opinions separately.

In order to bring this issue to the level of implementation, the cooperation of all the stakeholders has been important. The program concluded with the conclusion that the federation would lead this issue by forming a joint program with other organizations working on the issue of agriculture and farmers.
