Cooperation between the local government and the National Federation of Farmers is becoming more effective

Bhagwanpur rural municipality of Siraha district has taken the policy of conducting works in collaboration with the civil society. The National Farmers Group Federation of Nepal has learned that these programs are effective when the local levels start conducting programs in coordination and cooperation with the civil society organizations. The federation had assisted in the expansion of contract farming with Bhagwanpur village municipality and celebrated the 15th National Paddy Day.

In Bhagwanpur rural municipality ward no.1  After the success of the contract farming conducted by the federation with the participation of the Musahar community in the first year, the village municipality has decided to expand this learning to other wards. A decision was taken by the village council in 2074-2075 BS to expand the contract farming to other wards as well. Accordingly, contract farming is being expanded in Ward Nos. 3 and 5 in collaboration with National Farmers Group Federation Nepal and Bhagwanpur VDC.  

 Similarly, in collaboration with Bhagwanpur VDC, the 15th National Paddy Day 2075 BS was celebrated grandly with the slogan "Increase in Paddy Production, Prosperity of the Nation". The program was organized in collaboration with F.A.O District Agriculture Development Office Siraha, Small Farmers Agricultural Cooperative Society Bhagwanpur, Salhes Phulwari Farmers Group, District Seed Entrepreneurs Association Siraha, and Dalit Women Farmers Group.

The chief guest of the program was Pradesh no. 2 Honorable Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Vijay Yadav, The Paddy Day program was conducted under the patronage and hospitality of Honorable Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Bijay Yadav, Distinguished Guest Honorable Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Shailendra Sah and Guest Bhagwanpur Village Chairman Bechan Prasad Yadav.

In this Paddy Day program, Bhagwanpur village chairman Bechan Prasad Yadav said that the Musahar community has undergone a lot of changes from contract farming to Dalit women farmer group under the Right to Food project run with the support of the National Farmers Group Federation Nepal. Therefore, we are now expanding this contract farming in the remaining 4 wards of Bhagwanpur village municipality. He also requested the ministers from the states to take initiative in the establishment of cold storage.

State no.2  Honorable  Minister of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Shailendra Sah: Our main occupation is agriculture. The only development in agriculture opens the way for other developments. State No. 2: Development of this nation is not possible unless the self-reliance of small women and marginalized peasantry. The contract farming operated by the federation has been done in the Musahar community. That has been a model work. I am confident that this agreement will be extended to other municipalities by the federation. Commitment has been made to mechanize and further assist this group and to take initiative for the establishment of cold storage.

Honorable Finance Minister Bijay Kumar Yadav-Province No. 2 has the highest budget allocation in agriculture. We will take initiative to manage this contract farming at the state level as well. This exemplary work of Dalit women farmers is commendable. Therefore, commitment has been made to manage the housing in the Dalit slums.

The cooperation program has been effective. It makes all parties involved feel successful. The journey of cooperation and coordination at the local level will continue in the days to come.
